Alpha version of your ship's Cargo Bay nearing completion
July 24, 2016
I thought today I would do a showcase of your ship's Cargo Bay, which is nearing completion (of the Alpha stage asset, anyway) and will soon be appearing in a build for internal testing.

We're very happy with how the Cargo Bay is shaping up. We think this feels like both a functional and useful space, which will soon be ready to receive small-sized (to Galactic Standard) cargo containers (roughly 1.5 cubic meters). This functionality and usefulness translates to a feeling of "realness", which is important to me as a game designer—I have always wanted the ship to feel like a place that could actually exist, function and thrive in a universe where galaxy-wise commerce and travel is commonplace and necessary for everyone's prosperity.

The main entry point is a circular airlock door in the middle of the bay, which where cargo containers will be brought up from the station dock on an elevator and floated in (via gravitic lifts).
The elevated Security Room you can see in a couple of shots above provides door controls for the Cargo Bay and the rest of the ship, but can also be used to access environmental controls if necessary.
In gameplay terms, the Cargo Bay is an important entry point. Not only will you enter the ship here, but others will typically enter the ship through the Cargo Bay as well—whether they're welcome visitors or not. As such, this area is likely to see confrontations of one type of another, including firefights as you fend off enemy boarding actions.
